On a cold, grey day recently, I needed some warmth and color to get me through. So I dug out the last tomatoes from this summer and made a spicy soup. First, I roasted garlic and spring onions in olive oil, then added diced tomatoes and dried thyme from the garden. I flavored it all with green pepper hot sauce and left it to simmer for half an hour while I walked the dog, who won't leave the house alone during hunting season. Came back and ate the soup and felt more cheerful!
